Feng Shui Products & Information Feng Shui (pronounced Fung Shway) is the ancient Chinese art of placement to enhance the flow of "vital life energy" known as Qi. Feng Shui Practitioners believe that rooms, buildings and all environments can be arranged and decorated with feng shui colors and feng shui products such as: feng shui baqua, feng shui wind chimes, feng shui coins, etc., that can maximize the flow of Qi, which improves the health and happiness of those who live in that environment. The Bagua
Qi or energy of a given environment. The map divides a room into 9 squares of equal size, with each grid corresponding to a specific "gift" in life, such as health, love, and knowledge. The various schools of thought in Feng Shui all use the bagua in one form or another. The bagua, generally an octagon or square divided into nine areas, which are sometimes referred to as "guas", is superimposed over a floor plan of the building, room or property. Blackhat sect and Form school Feng Shui use essentially the same bagua. In Feng Shui, a map called a Bagua is used. The nine areas of the bagua are (clockwise, from the northern area) career, knowledge, family, wealth, fame, marriage, children, and helpful people. The ninth area is the center. Each area is associated with direction, elements, and I Ching trigram (the ancient system of Divination). In arranging a room, 9 areas are noted to be of special significance. The following table, which cooresponds to the Baqua, illustrates the relationship of areas in a room (or home) in relation to the room's Main Entrance. Imagine dividing your room (home, office) into the following 9 areas. We have highlighted the ideal items to enhance the movement of Qi within each location. Please be aware: these "cures" are, by no means, comprehensive - it is simply offered as a guide to choosing products right for you. They are as follows:
Career Knowledge Family Wealth Fame Marriage Children Helpful People Health Once the bagua is superimposed over the floor plan, one can see what parts of the building, room or property lie in each area of the bagua. Feng Shui may be begun, using the colors and elements to correct deficiencies or an overabundance of an element. Deficiencies are corrected by adding the needed element or by using its associated color. An overabundance of an element can be corrected by adding its controlling element, by lessening the element itself, or by using the associated colors. For example, if fire were overabundant, then a water element could be added, thereby bringing fire back into balance. Everything is relative to each other. When using the bagua to determine the Feng Shui layout, start with a floor plan of the building and superimpose the bagua over it, as a whole; then apply the bagua to each individual room. The most important thing to remember when using the bagua is to be consistent, using the same school of Feng Shui throughout the entire building. The Five Phases
Certain fundamentals of Chinese Medicine must be understood when working with one's constitution. One such fundamental is the Five Phases (Elements) Theory, which states there are five interrelated elements: fire, earth, metal, water and wood. The following are the ways (or cycles) in which the elements of nature are interrelated. "Sheng"-Generating/Nourishing (Creative) Cycle In this cycle, one element generates/nourishes or creates the following element. The nourished element is also known as the child element. The nourishing element is known as the mother element. This is an important aspect of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The pattern is: * Fire nourishes earth * Earth nourishes metal * Metal nourishes water * Water nourishes wood * Wood nourishes fire "Ke"-Controlling/Overcoming (Destructive) Cycle * Fire controls metal * Metal controls wood * Wood controls earth * Earth controls water * Water controls fire There are two out of balance/pathological cycles: Overacting Cycle The overacting cycle is much the same as the controlling cycle, but in the overacting cycle, one of two things has occurred: The controlled element has become weakened (deficient) to the point that the controlling element is now over powering it, or the controlling element has become so strong (excess) that it is suppressing the controlled element. Insulting Cycle In this cycle, the controlled element has either become excess to point of rebelling against the controlling element, or the controlling element has become deficient to the point of being overpowered by the controlled element. This cycle is as follows: * Metal insults fire * Fire insults water * Water insults earth * Earth insults wood * Wood insults metal All the elements are mutually inhibitive and at the same time mutually creative: wood creates fire, fire creates earth, earth creates metal, metal creates water, and water creates wood. Conversely, water inhibits fire, fire inhibits metal, metal inhibits wood, wood inhibits earth, and earth inhibits water. Yin and YangYin and yang are two words we frequently hear in connection with balance. Yin is generally thought of as being feminine, while yang is considered masculine, yet there is much more to this. Yin is also related to the earth, moon, darkness, shade, rest, space, west and north. Yang on the other hand is related to light, sun, brightness, heaven, time, south, east and left. In ancient times when the daily cycle of night and day were noted, it was thought that day corresponded to yang and yin corresponded to night. Since one usually traveled and worked during the day, yang came to be associated with activity, while yin came to be associated with rest because at night, one rested. Yin and Yang are looked at in four distinct ways. Yin and Yang are in: Opposition: in relation/relative to each other Interdependent: you cannot have one without the other Mutual Consumption: control and balance one another QiQi, often referred to as "life force", or "energy" is that which flows through all things. Qi is containing, activating, transporting, protecting and warming. Qi is something that cannot be seen or recorded, yet is upon and within all things. "Qi is the thread connecting all beings. Qi is the common denominator of all things - from mineral to human. Qi is the fundamental quality of being and becoming one. As a concept, which is truly ethereal, it is the most deeply rooted intution in Chinese civilization. Qi is like the wind, a natural element and energy source that is constantly flowing all around us. We cannot see it, but we know it exists by the way it affects the physical around us. Qi is also like water, an energy source that can be governed to where it is needed and be more beneficial to our well-being. At the same time, Qi like water, also cycles constantly from one phase to another. It is a cycle that, if broken or interrupted, will affect everything else that depends on the continuity of this cycle. Secret ArrowsAlso known as poison arrows or "sha" are sharp angles that focus a point of harmful energy. These arrows are usually projected out from sharp cornered furniture or interior walls. The areas or sites, which are damp, crowded, hollow, flat or have straight lines are objects, which project this "sha" or negative energy. The edges of a neighbor's roof, railway tracks, telephone lines all weaken Qi energy and create these secret arrows. Even nature creates her own poison arrows, such as rivers running straight and fast, sharp cliffs or vertical gaps in mountain ranges. The general rule states: all organic curving lines in landscape including houses or objects, express flowing Qi. Whereas, straight, rectangular lines attract secret, poison arrows or "sha."
