Panic Attack Symptoms

Panic attacks involve sudden feelings of terror that strike without warning.  These episodes can occur at any time.  Panic attacks are generally brief, lasting less than 10 minutes, although some of the symptoms may last for a longer time.  A person experiencing a panic attack might believe that he or she is having a heart attack or that death is imminent.  The fear that a person experiences during a panic attack is not in proportion to the true situation and may be unrelated to what is happening around them.  Below are several panic attacks symptoms that people experience:

  • "Racing" heart
  • Feeling a loss of control
  • Feeling weak, faint, or dizzy
  • Tingling or numbness in the hands and fingers
  • Sense of terror, or impending doom or death
  • Feeling sweaty or having chills
  • Chest pains
  • Breathing difficulties

People experiencing panic attacks also may need treatment for other emotional problems. Depression has often been associated with panic disorder, as have alcohol and drug abuse.  Fortunately, with proper treatment, these problems associated with panic attacks can be overcome effectively.

Golden Rules for Coping with Panic

  1. Remember that even though your feelings and symptoms are very frightening, they are NOT dangerous or harmful.
  2. Undestand that what you are experiencing ia an exaggeration of your normal bodily reactions to a stressful thought.
  3. Do NOT fight your feelings away.  Your fighting with a frightening THOUGHT. The more you are willing to face your feelings the less intense they become.
  4. Do NOT add to your panic by thinking what "might" happen. Tell yourself, "SO WHAT!"
  5. STAY IN THE PRESENT. Notice what is really happening to you as opposed to the illusion of what you think might happen.
  6. Notice that when you stop adding frightening thoughts to your fear, it begins to fade.
  7. CHANGE YOUR PRIMARY THOUGHT. Focus on and carry out a simple manageable task.
  8. Label your fear from 0 to 10 and watch it go up and down. Notice that it does not stay at a high level for very long.
  9. Be grateful of your SELF for your progress so far and think about how good you will feel when you succeed!

Holistic Panic Attack Treatment

There are more things that people can do to help make panic attack treatment more effective.  Since substances like caffeine, alcohol and certain drugs can worsen panic attacks, those things should be avoided.  Other tips to prevent or manage panic attacks include engaging in aerobic exercise and stress-management techniques like deep breathing, massage therapy, and yoga, since these self-help activities have also been found to help decrease the frequency and severity of panic attacks. Other very helpful panic attack treat includes, past life regression therapy and crystal healing.

Past Life Regression Therapy
Certain panic attacks could stem from fears and phobias not related to the current lifetime, which can be understood by looking further back into the past.  One client, upon hearing that she had been hanged in a past life, looked at me in amazement and said, “Now I know why I can’t stand to have anyone touch my neck.  I won’t even wear turtlenecks or necklaces because I start to panic at the feeling.”

Here's another example - a client could not go into a MRI machine without having a panic attack.  During her past life regression therapy, she found out she was buried alive in Egypt.  She was then able to heal this past life memory and have her MRI screening without calming drugs or anxiety.  By knowing where the fear had come from, she was no longer fearful.
